The Undesirables is a show of large-scale sculpture to be held at the Graffiti Gallery, opening Friday, November 2, 2012. It features five emerging Winnipeg artists, all recent graduates of the Sculpture Program at the University of Manitoba, and is curated by Sarah Anne Johnson and Meeka Walsh. While the works are diverse in form, ranging from a life-size dinosaur to an expansive installation inspired by religious architecture, all are portraits exploring disparaging circumstances, conditions, or states of being. A nursing home room gestures to a ship that’s run aground, a kinetic hot air balloon continuously deflates, and a towering, bubbling cloud ghoul is engulfed by invasive parasites.
