Deep Dive

June 7th, 2019 - August 16th, 2019

Plucked from the basements, garages, bedrooms and blanket forts of Winnipeg, this exhibition hopes to amplify the unsung, shed light on those working in the shadows, and invite in the outsider. This grouping of DIY artists is compelled to create works of art for the sake of creating. Their works are personal, singular, uninfluenced, grotesque and full of raw beauty.

...if you’re someone who doesn’t have a studio or whatever, you are probably doing art in your basement, living room, whatever, your garage. So, that had to be part of it. And that little installation was to pay homage to humble beginnings, I guess.

Artist-led Workshop

In conjunction with a group show titled Deep Dive, curated by Gwen Trutnau, participants are invited to repurpose found objects into works of art, and to create collaborative drawings using prompts and games. This combined drawing and sculptural workshop, will take place entirely inside a simulated “living room” within the gallery. The workshop will explore the potential to up-cycle materials, work collaboratively, and to reimagine a new potential for discarded items. The youth’s sculptural pieces and drawings will be shown in the William Feldman Gallery, an exhibition space located in Graffiti Gallery, dedicated entirely to featuring work produced by youth participants.
